Local Scholarships

All scholarship applications will be submitted through Google Classroom.  Below is a list of the local scholarships that are award each year.  Some scholarships do not have an application.  Selection for those scholarships is determined by pre-set criteria.  Please pay attention to due dates.  The instructions to receive the scholarship payment are if you are selected as the winner of the scholarship.  All scholarships are due on March 20, 2020 unless otherwise indicated.

Albion Area Arts Council Scholarship

  • Amount: $750

  • Must be a student that has excelled in the fine arts and have demonstrated good character

  • Provide Paul Hosford with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID.

  • A check will be mailed to your college to be applied to your student account.

Albion Education Foundation Scholarship

  • No Application

  • $2500 scholarship goes to the student with the highest combined GPA in selected core classes

  • The following courses must be taken and will be the ONLY classes used in figuring the winner:

    • English 9, 10, 11, 12

    • Algebra I, II, Geometry & Pre-Calculus

    • Cultural Geography, American History, Government

    • Biology, Physical Science, Chemistry, Physics

    • Spanish I & II

    • Speech and Economics

  • Semester 1 - Provide Rick Martinsen with a copy of your 1st semester schedule and your student ID number by December 15th of the first semester of college.

  • The first installment of $1250 will be paid to your college. 

  • Semester 2 - Provide Rick Martinsen with a copy of your grades from 1st semester, a copy of your 2nd semester class schedule and your student ID

  • A check will be mailed to your college for the second installment of $1250.

  • If not submitted by the above deadline, the scholarship will go to the alternate.

Albion FFA Alumni Scholarship

  • Due: Friday after state FFA convention (April 10, 2020)

  • Several $500 scholarships

  • Must be active member of FFA and planning to attend 2 or 4 year program

  • Must meet all criteria to be eligible (see scholarship)

  • Selected by the FFA Alumni Association

  • This scholarship is awarded at the FFA Banquet.  

  • Please contact either Lonnie Rasmussen or Mrs. Hitchler to make arrangements for this scholarship.

Albion Masonic Lodge Scholarship

  • 2 x $1000 scholarship

  • General scholarship - all students encouraged to apply

  • Two letters of recommendation required.

  • Recommendations must include a completed FORM AND a LETTER in support of the applicant.

  • Please contact Mr. Rick Martinsen with a copy of your 1st semester schedule and your student ID by December 15th.

  • A check will be written and sent to your college of choice and applied to your account.

Albion News Scholarship

  • Amount: $250 scholarship

  • Preference given to students planning to major in journalism

  • Students must demonstrate leadership and high moral standards

  • Financial need is also considered

  • Contact Mr. Jim Dickerson at the Albion News with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID. 

  • A check will be sent to your college and applied to your account.

Alda Lehr Memorial Scholarship

  • Amount: $1500

  • Scholarship awarded to female student planning to attend UNK, UNO, UNL, or UNMC renewable for four years

  • Three recommendations are required

  • Recommendations must include a completed FORM AND a LETTER in support of the applicant.

  • Students will also be asked to sit for an interview

  • Please contact Mrs. Jerene Kruse with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID.

  • The money will be applied to your student account. 

  • This scholarship may be renewed for four-years.  

  • Log into your MyRed account by Feb. 15th of each year to accept the renewal from the Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid.

American Legion Post #162 Educational Gift

  • Amount: $150 scholarship

  • Must have a parent, grandparent or great-grandparent as a member of Post #162

  •  Scholarship paid after 1st semester of college

  • After the 1st semester, contact Legion Commander Margarita Landauer with a copy of your 1st semester grades, 2nd semester class schedule and student ID. 

  • A check will be sent to your college and applied to your student account.

Andy Johnson Memorial Scholarship

  • Amount $500

  • Preference given to students going into agriculture

  • Provide Eric Johnson a copy of your 1st semester class schedule.

  • A check will be sent to your college and applied to your student account.

August and Bertha Miller Scholarship

  • Amount: $500

  • Preference given to students going into agriculture, but all students encouraged to apply

  • Two letters of recommendation required.

  • Recommendations must include a completed FORM AND a LETTER in support of the applicant.

  • Please contact Rick Martinsen with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID number by December 15th.

  • A check will be sent to your college and applied to your student account.

Boone Central Alumni Scholarships

  • Amount: 2 x $500

  • Must have one parent that graduated from Albion High School or Petersburg High School

  • Please contact Brooke Stuhr with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID.

  • A check will be sent to your college and applied to your student account.

Boone Central Booster Club Scholarship

  • Amount: 4 x $500 scholarships (2 male and 2 female)

  • Awarded to students active in all the "colors" of Boone Central

  • A check will be given to you at Honor's Night.

Boone Central Spirit Scholarship

  • No application

  • Selection based on students that demonstrate positive school spirit and attend events they are not required to attend.

  • Provide Mrs. Webster with a copy of your 1st semester schedule and your student ID.

  • A check will be mailed to your school and applied to your account.

Boone Central Teammates Scholarship

 

  • Must be a member of the Teammates Mentoring Program

  • 1st semester - Provide Mrs. Sarah Bird with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID.

  • 1/2 of the scholarship amount will be paid to your college and applied to your account. 

  • 2nd semester - Provide Mrs. Sarah Bird with a copy of your 2nd semester class schedule and your student ID.

  • The second 1/2 of the scholarship will be paid to your college.

Boone County Farm Bureau Scholarship

  • Amount: $500 scholarship

  • Must have a parent or student membership in Farm Bureau

  • Please contact Mrs. Sharon Ketteler with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and student ID.

Boone County VFW Auxiliary Post #736 Educational Gift

  • Amount: $200 scholarship

  • Student's mother, grandmother, or great-grandmother must be a member of the local VFW Aux. Post #736

  • Please contact Mrs. Karen Hagemann with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID.

Boone County VFW Post #736 Educational Gift

  • $200 scholarship

  • Student's parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent must be a member of the local VFW Post #736

  • Scholarship awarded after 1st semester of college

  • After 1st semester, contact Mr. Albert VanDeWalle with a copy of your 1st semester grades, 2nd semester class schedule and student ID.

Boone/Nance Cattlemen's Scholarships

  • Due January 15th

  • Amount: Several @ $1000 each

  • Preference given to members of the Boone/Nance Cattlemen's Association.

  • This scholarship is awarded at the Boone/Nance Cattlemen's Banquet.  

  • Contact Ted Jensen, St. Edward, to make arrangements to receive the scholarship.

Captain Edward Iwan Scholarship

  • No Application

  • Amount: $500 scholarship

  • Entire senior class is considered

  • Selection based on set criteria by a faculty committee

  • A check for $500 is given to the student on Honor’s Night.

Carroll J. (Tad) Reid Scholarship

  • Amount: $250 scholarship

  • Must be in the upper 50% of class, involved in the community, demonstrate good character and financial need

  • 1st Semester - Provide Rick Martinsen with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and student ID number by December 15th.

  • A check for the scholarship will be sent to your college.

Cloverlodge Care Center Scholarship

  • Amount: $500

  • Must be a graduate of Boone Central, Twin Rivers, St. Ed. or Cedar Rapids High School

  • Preference given to applicants planning to enter into health care or related field, but all students are encouraged to apply.

  • Contact Theresa Naber at the Cloverlodge Care Center to receive the money for this scholarship.

Columbus Area Artists Visual Arts Scholarship

  • Amount: $250

  • Must be a graduating senior from Platte, Polk, Butler, Boone or Colfax counties.

  • Must have maintained a B average and demonstrates talent in the visual art area.

  • Must include recommendation form from art instructor.  (Form will download with application.)


  • Contact Jerene Kruse to make arrangements to receive the money for this scholarship.  

Cops and Bobbers Scholarship

  • Due March 1st

  • Amount 500

  • Preference given to students entering into law enforcement or a related field.

  • Contact Dustin Martin with a coyp of your 1st semester class schdule and a check will be sent to your college and applied to your account.

Cornerstone Bank Scholarship

  • $1000 general scholarship

  • All students encouraged to apply

  • 1st Semester - Contact Mr. Steven Rucek at Cornerstone Bank with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID.  

  • A check will be written for the first installment of the scholarship. 

  • 2nd Semester – Provide Mr. Rucek a copy of your 1st semester grades, a copy of your 2nd semester class schedule and your student ID.

  • A check will then be written for the remaining amount.

Dan Thieman Scholarship

  • Amount: $500 general scholarship

  • Open to all students

  • Need to include 2 letters of recommendation, resume and essay

  • Please contact Mrs. Pat (Thieman) Petsche with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID to make arrangements to receive the money for this scholarship.

Dean's Scholarship at Northeast Community College

  • Due January 15th

  • Amount: $500

  • Must have applied to NECC by the deadline and have been accepted.

  • The money for this scholarship will be credited to your account at NECC.

FCCLA Scholarship

  • Amount: $100

  • Student must be a four-year member of FCCLA

  • Awarded at FCCLA Banquet

  • Please contact Mrs. Groth with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID.

Gateway Youth Foundation Scholarships

  • Three $500 scholarships

  • Must have been a member (past or present) of Boone Central Entrepreneurship class

  • 1/2 scholarship paid in fall, remaining amount paid in spring

  • 1st – Semester – Provide Mr. Sup with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID.

  • 2nd semester – Provide him them a copy of your grades from 1st semester, a copy of 2nd semester class schedule and your student ID to receive the second 1/2 of the scholarship.

  • A check will be sent to your college for each semester.

Good Samaritan Society-Albion's BC Senior Scholarship

  • Two $250 scholarships

  • Student must be a member of a local Christian church and complete an essay on community involvement and/or volunteer work

  • Please provide Mr. Bryan Molt at the Good Samaritan Society a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID.

  • A check will be sent to your college to be applied to your account.

Harold Rudman Scholarships

  • 4 x $1000 scholarships

  • Must be going into agriculture or health care field

  • Two letters of recommendation required.

  • Recommendations must include a completed FORM AND a LETTER in support of the applicant.

  • Please contact Mr. Rick Martinsen with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID number by December 15th.

  • A check will be sent to your college and applied to your student account.

Homestead Bank Scholarships

  • $1000 scholarship awarded (may be split into 2 x $500)

  • All students encouraged to apply

  • Must submit two recommendation forms (download form)

  • One recommendation must be from high school faculty

  • Please contact Mrs. Becky Olnes at Homestead Bank with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and student ID.  

  • A check will be sent to your college to be applied to your account.

JANS Scholarship

  • No application

  • $100 scholarship

  • Selected by secretarial staff

  • "Just A Nice Student"

  • Please provide Mrs. Webster a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and student ID

  • A check will be sent to your college to be applied to your account.

Jeff Bussey Memorial Scholarship

  • Amount: $500

  • Contact Dawn Bussey with a copy of your 1st semeser class schedule and student ID number. 

  • A check will be sent to your college to be applied to your account.

Jim Wolf Memorial 1 Year Scholarship

  • No application

  • $1000 scholarship for freshman year of college

  • Please contact Mr. Rick Martinsen with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID number by December 15th.

  • A check will be sent to your college and applied to your student account.

Jim Wolf Memorial Years 2, 3, and 4 Scholarship

  • No application

  • $2500 scholarship for sophomore, junior and senior years of college

  • Entire senior class considered

  • Selection based on GPA in select core classes, other scholarships awarded, and financial need

  • Please contact Mr. Rick Martinsen with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule for your 2nd year of college and your student ID number by December 15th.

  • You will need to do this for every semester of your sophomore, junior and senior year of college.  

  • A check will be sent to your college and applied to your student account.

June Bentley Scholarship

  • $200 scholarship

  • Given to student going into education

  • Two letters of recommendation required.

  • Recommendations must include a completed FORM AND a LETTER in support of the applicant.

  • A check will be sent to your college and applied to your student account.

Keith and Mildred Ladd Scholarship

  • Amount: $1000

  • Student must be planning to attend a four year college or university

  • Two letters of recommendation required.

  • Recommendations must include a completed FORM AND a LETTER in support of the applicant.

  • Please contact Mr. Rick Martinsen with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID number by December 15th.

  • A check will be sent to your college and applied to your student account.

Knights of Columbus Scholarships

  • 2 x  $250 scholarships

  • Student must be of Catholic faith

  • Presented at Graduation Mass

  • Provide Mr. Lonnie Smith with a copy of your 1st semester grades, your 2nd semester class schedule and student ID to receive this scholarship for the 2nd semester.

Lavinda Rose Memorial Scholarship

  • Amount: $250 

  • Male or female graduating who has attended Pathways Alternative Education Center or Boone Central High School.

  • A student who has risen above struggles to set and reach personal goals.
    Financial need is also considered

Leonard F. and Sarah F. Maricle Scholarship

  • Due March 22

  • Amount: $250 scholarship

  • Student must be a member of the Albion or Loretto United Methodist Church

  • 1st Semester - Contact the Methodist Church with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and student ID.

  • One half of the scholarship will be paid for 1st semester.

  • 2nd Semester - Provide them with a copy of your 1st semester grades (must be C's or above) and your 2nd semester class schedule.

  • The final 1/2 will be paid for 2nd semester.

Louis Hoppe Memorial Scholarship

  • $500 scholarship

  • General scholarship but preference given to students going into agriculture at a 2-year school

  • Please contact Mr. Rick Martinsen with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID number by December 15th.

  • A check will be sent to your college and applied to your student account.

Marilyn Nissen Nursing Scholarship

Amount: $250 or $500

High school seniors who have been accepted to or who have the intent of applying to an accredited nursing program are eligible to apply. They must also be a resident of the Albion, Bartlett, Belgrade, Cedar Rapids, Elgin, Ericson, Fullerton, Greeley, Lindsay, Newman Grove, Petersburg, Primrose, Spalding or St. Edward community.

  • Two scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $250 or $500 to two separate graduating high school seniors.  Students with the intent of enrolling in an accredited nursing program will be eligible for $250. Students who have been accepted in an accredited nursing program will be eligible for $500.

  • The scholarship money is payable in full directly to the college. 

  • Proof of enrollment must be provided to BCHC Foundation no later than August 1st unless the school runs on a non-traditional cycle. 

Matt Iwan Memorial Scholarship

  • No application

  • $500 scholarship

  • All BC seniors considered and selection is based on set criteria by a faculty committee

  • A check for $500 is given to the student on Honor’s Night.

Order of the Eastern Star Scholarship

  • Amount: $1000 scholarship

  • All students are encouraged to apply and one letter of recommendation is required

  • Open to Columbus and Boone Central students

 

Phebe Randles Memorial Scholarshp

  • Amount: $500

  • Preference given to a student entering into education

  • Please provide Rick Martinsen a copy of your 1st semester grades, your 2nd semester class schedule and your student ID number by December 15th.

  • A check will be sent to your college to be applied to your account.

Petersburg Community School Foundation Scholarship

  • Amount: 2 x $500 scholarships (one male and one female)

  • Applicants must be from the Petersburg community

  • Application requires an essay and letters of recommendations

  • Please provide Rick Martinsen a copy of your 1st semester grades, your 2nd semester class schedule and your student ID number by December 15th.

  • A check will be sent to your college to be applied to your account.

Ronald Philmalee Agriculture Scholarship

  • Amount: $500

  • Must be considering a career in agriculture

  • Contact Jolene Frey with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID to make arrangements for this scholarship.

SADD Scholarships

  • Amount: 2 x $250 scholarships

  • Awarded to students who have been active and involved members of SADD for at least three years of high school.

  • Please contact Mrs. Jenni Grape with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID.

  • A check will be sent to your college to be applied to your account.

Sentinel Building Systems Scholarship

  • Amount: $500

  • All students are encouraged to apply.

  • Contact Mrs. Suzanne Joe at Sentinel Building Systems with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and your student ID.

Sons of the American Legion

  • Amount: $250

  • Must be a descendant of a military veteran or planning to enter into the military themselves.

  • Provide Mr. Matt Grosch with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and student ID

Tom Ehlers Memorial Scholarship

  • Amount: $500 scholarship

  • Preference given to business or finance majors

  • Provide Mr. Todd Kramer with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and student ID.

  • A check will be mailed to your college to be applied to your account.

Tom Philips Memorial Scholarship

  • Amount varies (usually $250)

  • Awarded to senior planning to attend a 2 or 4 year college

  • Must have been actively involved in extracurricular activities 

  • Please provide Mr. Jon Perone with a copy of your 1st semester class schedule and student ID.

  • A check will be mailed to your college to be applied to your account.

Ward and Nell Ladd Scholarship

  • Amount: $500

  • Preference given to students going into the business field.

  • All students are encouraged to apply.

  • Two letters of recommendation required.

  • Recommendations must include a completed FORM AND a LETTER in support of the applicant.
